This is our very first entry in our series titled "Most Anticipated Films of 2009." In this series of op-ed's, filmhub discusses and previews, you guessed it, the most anticipated films of the year. Kicking off the series is a summer blockbuster with about as much buzz as any upcoming film, Terminator Salvation.
The 4th Terminator film, and the first in the new franchise, Terminator Salvation looks the build on the unparalleled success of the original trilogy. Like many fans, I was extremely skeptical when it came to the idea of a 4th Terminator film.
While I wouldn't go so far as to call Terminator 3 an embarrassment to the franchise, it certainly didn't come close to matching the quality of the first two films. The success of the first two Terminator films can be attributed to James Cameron's incredible ability to mix mind blowing special effects with compelling and original story telling. The Terminator films have always been most well known for the former, but it is the latter that will allow them to live on as classic films. So given how important good story telling is to the success of a 4th Terminator film, one might wonder why, exactly, McG was chosen to helm the project. Given his reputation for creating "style-over-substance" type films, many fans were prepared for the worst. Then came the somewhat shocking news that Batman himself, Christian Bale, would be portraying John Connor. The casting of Bale emediately ramped up the buzz for the film. Joining Bale is a very solid cast that includes Sam Worthington (Avatar), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Moon Bloodgood, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common and Helen Bonham Carter.
Cool!
